Your choice from NH Public Radio (Blog entry #5)

This week's blog will consist of listening to a podcast from the NH Public radio Environment website of your choice.  After you have listened to this podcast discuss the following:

1.  Briefly summarize the content of the podcast (what was it about?)
2.  Discuss the impact the new knowledge will have on your life, your choices and actions.

I listened to the podcast titled "Trying to Convince people not to open burn." In it, they had people explaining their points of view on open burning fires in regards to such aspects as pollution and space availability. After listening to the podcast and understanding that whatever is burnt, is being put into the air and inhaled, i will think twice about what i burn in bonfires, camp fires, and any other type. From the podcast, i can be more environmentally friendly with my burning. Also i can address the issue with family and friends.

CLIMATE CHANGE REFUGEES

This pod cast was about how bad the acidification is in the arctic ocean. It talks about how the temperatures are so cold, so therefore the water is more prone to the Co2, It is predicted that in 10 years, 10% of the arctic ocean will become dissolved in the water causing the water to slowly increase up towards the shore. Not too many people are concerned with this because it is not something that a person would recognize from living here in the US or any other country. Like the scientists said, " Not too many people live in the arctic so the difference in water elevation is not being noticed.
This could impact the lives of many by the fact that if the water continues to expand, it will eventually destroy homes of people who live on the coast. It would cause crowding and competition in other areas. The only solution to this problem is prevention. Some people react better and take precaution knowing that this could make polar bears and other animals become extinct.
Co2 can not be prevented, but it can be limited. Co2 is given off through basically everything; cars, people, buildings, and plants. We can only limit this by keeping track of how much heat every building produces and releases. Another idea is you could use a hybrid car or something that produces less CO2 because once our oceans become acidic, there is no fixing it!

There are two schools that are trying to go green as best as possible.... They grow most of there food they make there own meals they have the students involved so that they know what its like... they try to keep the heat low during th winter... they have more classes learning about global warming and other stuff like that... they try not to use lights as much as possible and they unplug things when they are done useing... instead of just turning them off it saves more energy.....

It just shows how we can do a lot more of that type of stuff and make are school envirmental friendly

I think that we could recylce paper and make are own paper here at school instead off by more and more... we can try not to use as much light and we can unplog things when we are done using them... we can have more class like enveromental scince and tons more that we could do to help save a planet...

Deep sea rover
In this podcast they talked about using the Benthic Rover to see the effects of global warming on deep sea life. For impact they didn't really discuss any finding, but when they do maybe the people of Earth will change there actions toward the ocean and pollution for that matter. The information (once discovered) can help us all understand what we do here on land is or could be affecting the bottom of the ocean and for example what we could do is change how many ships are on waterso there won't be so many sinikng or spilling water in the ocean. I do know if we don't do something we are going to simply lose our home.

Great comments everyone. I am glad you are seeing connections between actions we take and the other parts of the Earth system. It is all interconnected!

"The Chemicals In Our Bodies"
This podcast said about chemicals remain in our body. Like Every morning we wake up, brush our teeth, wash our hair, make a cup of coffee, and ingest thousands of chemicals. Even the toothtube has chemical... how can we suppose to live? if this comment is done i will do brush my teeth.. but now i feel like afraid of my whole life.
whatever we do , That chemical remained in my body...

Now we need to protect ourselves.
Already in our body we have lots of chemical stuff. We try to make chemical free item.... without plastic stuff..

Last year , In my country we studied about plastic stuff . plastic stuff made environmental hormon so it causes atopic dermatitis and severe dysmenorrhea.

we try to reduce using of plastic stuff. and reduce chemical stuff in our bodies

The podcast i listened to was about the bird count before christmas and that for 24 hours people went in 21 designated areas and counted any bird they saw. The number of robins this year are record breaking and that we have more species of birds coming down from canada and birds leaving to go further south from us. The info i found very nice is that birds and the trees have a lot to do with each other and what the birds eat of trees and make nests and what not. I will change my actions in not shooting a bird with a bb gun like i used to back in the day and put up a bird feeder.
