Antarctic Ice Melting (Blog Entry #6)

In a few weeks, 60 leaders from around the country will meet in Copenhagen, Germany to hold talks about climate change.  This will be a chance for America to step forward in their role towards curbing/fighting climate change.  As evidence continues to mount supporting the impact climate change has on ecosystems this meeting is necessary towards sustaining our world.  Read the prompt below so you are aware of the assignment, post your response to earn your grade.

Im surprised that people even get together to try and fix a world problem even tho they alone didnt cause it. I plan on looking at the facts and not judging my outlooks on what people say or think. Just introduce it and give a positive outlook on how and what we can do to help prevent it. Learn the facts and just reiterate it to people around me.

Climate change will affect the world whether we like it or not. Everyone should be taking percautions so save our planet because not doing so is the biggest risk that we could ever take. Yes, people love it when it is 90 degrees out so they can tan and go to the beach and go for walks and do things outside. Well how are those people going to feel when there is no land to do any of that on... Global Warming is making the temperatures rise severly. That means that the ice in Antarctica is melting unbelievably fast. In 2006 Antarctica lost 5-109 gagatons, and in 2009 we have already lost 113-267. The numbers are sky rocketing! By the end of the century sea levels will have risen by at least 1 meter. That is crazy when you think about it. In 10 years it will have risen 10 meters. Cities are going to get destroyed if we don't do something about this. You can determine what is true by this article just by paying attention to the temperature of the air everyday. Notice that our winters are not as severe as they were 10 years ago. So that means that Global Warming is occuring and it is not just a myth or joke that people are trying to preach for attention. To get people informed I would have parents continue to teach their children how to use less water and use better appliances and such to stop Global Warming. Once we do teh damage, there is no going back! Fliars, meetings, announcements.. whatever we need to do to grab people's attention because our children's children's children are going to be in for some serious disasters in their lifetime...

I was glad to hear that they are trying to do something to stop global warming! i don't think that they can stop global warming, I believe, they can only slow it down, Because of all the Co2 that we are putting into the air. I would like to see more up dated information about there project and see if they could get numbers around the same rage. I like to get my information on channel 9 news in the morning before school and before I go to bed. My parent keep me up dated about global warming by showing me news articles and having me watch shows about global warming.

I was surprised at how much ice melting from one area on the planet can affect water levels everywhere. For example, when it said that the water levels by the end of this year could rise up to 3 meters. Thats almost 9 feet. If this keeps up, low places such as some cities could be underwater within a few years. People think that the water levels will not effect them and that it will be after their lifetime before there is need for any real concern, however, at the melting rate we are at because of global warming, there is need for concern now. If more efforts are not made soon, then life for future generations will not be so good.

Looking at this article was a huge shock... I thought that it was simple crazy how much ice was being melted yearly. I was excited to hear that the people are meeting in Germany to discuss the falling process of our planet and how they could steadliy decrease global warming. I also agree with Heather I know we can't stop global warming from happening because it still will even if we all just go "green".

Have you ever seen sinking island picture? I can't remember that island's name but the island already sinked half of them so the island's people lost their house.
because of global warming
i was shocked the whole Antarctic region could be losing ice at a rate of 113-267 gigatonnes a year, with 106-158 gigatonnes coming from West Antarctica. And in winter i couldn't feel cold at all.i have interesting Global warming so When i was in korea i went to museum about globalwarming and we also have organization which is study about global warming in antarctic. In my case if i want to understand my parents about climate change news i will use japan as a example. if the climate continue increasing, Japan will sink. We should realize serious of global warming. Now We can't stop global warming. but if we do us best we can slow down.

Global warming it here... it has always been here... we have just been speeding up the process... I think that we should all take a part in slowing it down again no matter the cost... we aren't just hurting the place were we live or our lives we are hurting the animals that live here and they cant do anything to help so we have to take it into are hands and fix the problem that we have made worse... We need to do something or we arent going to have a home much longer.....
