Ecological Footprint Quiz: http://www.earthday.net/footprint/flash.html
The assignment: Navigate to the website above and take the Ecological Footprint Quiz. This quiz will be revisited at the end of the semester to see if your impact on the Earth's resources decreases. Your grade will not depend on the reduction of your "footprint" rather only the analysis of your results and the completion of the quiz twice.
After you take the quiz, write a 3-5 sentence summary of your results. Include how many planets we would need to live like yourself, were the results surprising, what can you do to lower your impact on the Earth's resources and how do your results compare to your lab partner?

If everyone were to live like me it would take 3.9 Earths of resources. This was surprising because I rarely eat meat, always buy local or fresh ingredients and am very careful conserving energy. I think the test misses some major places in my life where I make a difference. For example, I reuse plastic containers that cannot be recycled in Littleton (like yogurt containers) in my classroom.
I used 4.8 earths of resources, though I found it kind of odd, because all I chose that was bad was eating processed foods. I think part of it is a bit "scare-tactic" based, because I retook the quiz and chose all the best possible answers and received only a 3.2, so I've deemed it impossible to be a perfect boy-scout.

nonetheless a cool activity. :D
To live like me it would take everyone 3.6 Earths of resources. I wasn't to surprised because I drive to and from school, work and practice. I do recycle everything that I can, I try to keep my water usage down as well. Electricity on the other hand I do use a lot of, from computers to my phone to the micro-wave, it all adds up. The test I believe is to scare people and to get them concerned and more involved. Saying it would take 3.6 earths if everyone lived like me, there are people who don't even know what a car or recycling is... so its more of the initial factor of "oh your using up more than you should be" when there are people who balance everyone else out. For every earth friendly there is a gas guzzling energy waster.
Its a nice activity!

After taking the footprint quiz to find how many Earths of resources it would take to support my lifestyle, I was surprised to see that it would take 4.7 planets. I did not feel that this quiz covered enough topics to base this decision. Also, many answers will be based upon the area that you may live in. For example, public transportation saves energy and resources, but living where we do there is not many other ways of transportation besides your own car. The quiz also covered topics that can not be altered because they are not my decisions. This includes the house i live in. So overall i did not feel that this quiz represented the person that i am. - aaron
hello teacher i'm Na.
i was shocked about my quiz results. because i have interested in environmental. so i think i trying to be a energy saver! i riding bike going to school in korea and taking a shower more fast and recycling trash. but i'm not energy saver .... if everyone lived like me . we need 4.9 planets.
i 'll reduce using cars , buying new thing , eating meets , using electronic stuff .
Somewhat crazy... would probably be the answer I would choose . I think I can help lower the impact by lowering the time I play my keyboard or something. If someone had to live like me they would have cut there planets to 3.5. The class mates in my class are probably the same as me, but just don't know the actual numbers.

It would take 5.3 planets of resources if everyone in the world lived like me. This was not very surprising to me because even though we do recycle at home, we have a large house and don't have a ton of time to stop and think how we are damaging the earth. To lower my results I could take shorter showers, eat less meat, and maybe walk a little more rather than drive all the time. My lab partners results were a little less than mine, but things such as having a big house and what my mother makes for dinner is really out of my control. -Lindz
I got 6.8 planets with my habits... Which if you ask me isn't very good, But I know what I can do to change and help my footprint in the environment. I can recycle more, stop using so much gas, stop wasting water, car pool. and yeah it was very surprising because I didn't know i was that bad...
